Time Flies

Time Flies

Time is a very funny thing. Each minute can go very slowly but large blocks of time like days, weeks and months go like a flash. This is exactly how the past four and a half months have felt to me.

It’s very difficult for me to believe that almost half of the year has already happened and that in no time, we’ll be in California and very close to our halfway point. I suppose it’s a sign that I’ve been enjoying myself, which I very much have, because time has been flying by.

We’ve seen so much of the country and yet so little. Whenever people ask us where we’ve been, we can rattle off a long list of places. But, looking at the map and spending time on the bus as drive two, three-hundred miles at a time, I realize how much of the country we aren’t seeing.

Even the places we do spend time in, we see just a scant overview of them. It’s enough for us to be able to say whether or not we really like a place but sometimes I leave a city thinking that I should go back just so I can get a better feel for the place.

There are definitely places I’ve fallen in love with. I really enjoyed seeing Charleston, SC and Knoxville, TN was a pleasant surprise. I also loved visiting Santa Fe, NM, and Salt Lake City has been a very interesting place to explore.

On our way from Colorado to Utah, we did a story in Steamboat Springs, CO. It was a lovely place and would, I think, be very pretty in the snow, with lots of skiing to enjoy. The story we did was about a bookshop called Off The Beaten Path and the work they do to encourage reading in children.

It was an absolutely wonderful bookshop and I would have spent hours, if not days, there. I would easily go on and on about it but I will leave that for one of my next blog post because it most definitely deserves its own post.
