The State of The Project

We need money. We are approaching the half-way point of Bus 52's primary year-long mission, and are getting to the stage where we need to start thinking and planning for what comes next.

We've had a really amazing experience so far - the wonderful stories we are getting to share aside, this has been an amazing opportunity in every nature of the word. In total, we have raised more than $80,000 for the project so far, with a majority of that coming from small donations.

Our present situation, however is not sustainable. From the beginning we knew we were funded through June. During the year, even with expensive breakdowns, we were able to push that end date to one of the end of July, which is where we stand at present.

It has been a tough balance between increased exposure and an inability to translate that into funds. Because we are such a small team, large fundraising drives, grant-writing, and large-scale partnerships have been very challenging.

We have sought the advice of many people throughout our travels, all making very good suggestions. The reply, unfortunately, often takes the form of us having tried that particular suggestion already, or an admission that we are simply unable to be in the position to take it forward.

I've spoken about the challenges this project is providing, and by no means need to re-share those with our readers, but at the same time we need to be realistic. If we cannot definitely sustain ourselves through a corporate financial structure, then is there a point in continuing? When it comes down to it, leads often turn up empty and though people mean well, assurances are never guaranteed.

In the end, we might be able to finish and we might not. Regardless, it's been an amazing experience that none of us would dare to trade for anything.
