Taqueria El Farolito

Taqueria El Farolito

Located in the downtown Mission area of San Francisco there is El Farolito, the only place I will ever want to get a burrito for the rest of my life. A cash-only hole-in-the-wall serving up some of the best tacos, burritos, and quesadillas on the planet. For many, the sensational reviews on Yelp and the cheap prices will be enough to get you in the front door, but you will want to stay for the atmosphere and ask to be buried with their food.

Toan, founder of the organization Go Inspire Go, brought us to this gem after we filmed a story about him filming a story. It was sort of an Inception kind of thing. Anyway, walking down the Mission it is impossible to pass El Farolito without wanting to check it out. Always a line that stretches to the door, a live mariachi band, and the smell of great food are qualities that are too good to want to pass up.

I decided on the super burrito after seeing a few of them being carried to some tables. They need to change the name because my burrito was much larger than super. Their burrito easily makes McDonald’s super size look tiny. The burritos don’t stray from the normal ingredients, but it is the quality and freshness that make these top shelf. Taking the last bite was bittersweet because I never wanted it to end. If I was a resident of San Francisco there would be El Farolito in my life every day of the week.

I absolutely hate when restaurants advertise themselves as the world’s greatest. There is no way we could ever know which restaurant is the world’s greatest and you shouldn’t have to advertise your food if it can speak for itself. However, I would without a doubt give El Farolito the award for the greatest burrito in the universe. Eating there was an experience that only reminded me of why I love discovering new places to eat and why food is so powerful.
