Cruze Farms

Cruze Farms

After a few days exploring the (wonderful) city of Knoxville, we had the chance Sunday to travel outside the city to the one and only Cruze farms.

Back in high school, I spent some time in rural Knoxville with the Appalachian Service Project; during that time I met Cheri Cruze and her family, and got to sample some of their homemade ice cream.  I couldn’t bear the thought of this being close to the farm and not stop in, so I convinced the team that a dairy farm visit really was necessary for our trip around the country.

Cheri, Earl, and Ayaka were all waiting for us at the farm when we arrived.  While I’m routinely blown away by the hospitality we have received on this trip, the Cruze family really outdid themselves; we all had our first taste of buttermilk, and sampled some incredible caramel ice cream that definitely hit the spot on a hot afternoon.

After wandering around the farm and picking daffodils, it was time to say goodbye and head off to Nashville.  If you’re ever in the Knoxville area, be sure to get yourself some ice cream – if you did nothing else in Knoxville, it would still be worth the trip!
