The Challenges: Why It's About Us

This project has been in development for the past two years. Through much of that time, those of us associated with Bus 52 have been planning, scheduling, organizing, and scheming ways to make Bus 52 a success. Let me tell you, it isn't easy.

It is not easy for a bunch of young people to take a huge risk and start a company. No matter what that company is or does. Add to the fact that ours is a non-profit that relies entirely on the donations and goodwill of others - and you have an even bigger challenge.

Add to that the fact that we are choosing the absolute worst time to be starting such a project. The economy is not in good shape, and people everywhere are needing to cut back on their charitable support in order to pay their bills.

Finally, look at who we are trying to reach. Our main target audience is young, college-aged men and women. No other demographic is more fickle, over saturated, and coveted than college-aged men and women. What the heck are we thinking? Are we in too deep?

The answer lies in the very reasons not to do something like this. We want to do this because it isn't easy for a bunch of young people to start a company. The fact that we are a non-profit? An even bigger reward for us when we succeed.

Right now, in our country and around the world, people are concerned with the future, and too often that can lead to a feeling of helplessness. Look at news outlets and you receive very little respite from such thoughts, worries or concerns. Our timing for starting this project couldn't be better

Finally, take a look at our 'fickle' audience. While it's true, young people are not as dependable a demographic in the eyes of many, we are out to change that perception. We want to find people - old, young and anywhere in between - who are making a difference in their community and being an innovative part of making their home better for their neighbors.

We think we have an audience, and we think they're going to watch. This project is being led by young people, for young people, and every setback, every challenge will only propel us forward. We have faith in this project, and you should too.  Young people need to take an active role in their community. These are the challenges. That's why it's about all of us.
