Bethesda Away from Bethesda

Bethesda Away from Bethesda

I don't talk a lot about my religious life on the bus, since in most instances it has very little to do with our mission and our trip (other than me taking the van on Sunday mornings to go to church). But today I'll make an exception because of a great experience this past Sunday.

We were staying near Charleston, WV, and as I often do I looked up nearby churches and eventually decided on Bethesda United Methodist (as much for the later 11 am service time as anything else). When I arrived, I was immediately welcomed by everyone, including the senior pastor. When it came up that I was a church musician, they told me that a lot of their usual worship team had gotten back late on a high school band trip, and asked if I would be willing to sing on one of their songs that day in worship.

Since skydiving, I've had a 'just go for it' sort of mindset, so I pushed aside my usual hesitation and agreed to sing. It's been awhile since I've had the chance to sing with other folks in a worship setting, and it was certainly a joy to get to do so again. I'm hugely thankful to the folks at Bethesda UMC for being so welcoming (and for taking me to lunch!). It was wonderful to join you all.
