Behind The Music, Part 2: Living on a Prayer

Random Acts of Flowers - I have received more positive feedback on the music for this piece than any other composition I've done this year. What I find  funny about this music being so popular is that I had been writing another piece for this story for about a week, then ended up scrapping it two days before the due date. Under pressure, I pulled out my keyboard and just started playing. What came out was this piece, and I think it will continue to be one of my favorite compositions of the year.

Circus Harmony - I had a lot of fun at Circus Harmony, and being a music nerd I had almost as much fun doing research for the background music. The good folks at CH furnished me with two CDs of circus music, one from St. Louis and one from circuses around the world. After listening to them on repeat for awhile, I came up with this piece, which hopefully pays tribute to the music of circuses past without outright copying it.

T.A.K.E. Defense - No piece has been as hard to write as this one - capturing the combination of sadness and hope that his program represents was hard enough, but it didn't help that I couldn't even make it through my working rough cut without crying. It was certainly an honor to meet Mr. Kemp, and it continues to be an honor to share his story through Bus 52.
